On our first full day in Tanzania, a one-digit mistake on a visa application and a little end-of-travel forgetfulness cost us four hours of delay. One of us traveled back from Moshi, where we stayed the night, to the airport to retrieve a passport. The rest of us napped.
When we got on the road in the right direction, our ultimate destination was Kirangare. On the way, we stopped in Mwanga to see Pastor Fue’s family and in Same to visit the offices of Empower Tanzania. Sadly, these visits had to be cut short because we were running so late.
But the real disappointment was missing the community greeting in Kirangare. It was after 9pm when we arrived. The full welcoming party at Kirangare Church went home, and we met just small welcoming parties in the dark at each host family. Perhaps tomorrow we can have a redo, and Allie, Amos, Susannah, and Sara will get to experience the joy, singing, wreaths of flowers, and love that Connor, Wendy, and I already have.
But we have traveled safely and relatively easily. We are with our dear brothers and sisters in Christ. Thank God for that.
