It was a warm, lovely, Ladybug-filled day for Zion's first Hike Church. The leaves were bright red, yellow, and green. In the drought, the grass was dry, and the undergrowth was wilting.
Some were new to Sunderbruch Park and new to each other. We shared communion in a shaded clearing, remembering that bread and wine are things of the earth. One hiker said, "Something had to die so we can live." It was a day for gratitude and connection with each other, with creation, and the Creator.
Zion's next Hike Church is November 17, 12:30 to 2pm at Black Hawk State Park in Rock Island.
