Currently, tenants in Davenport must pay rent even when their building fails to meet city housing code. Through the Quad Cities Tenant Alliance, Zion has been working to change that.
Last night, before the Davenport City Council meeting, Zion people rallied with other supporters. During the meeting, they voiced their enthusiastic support as the Council heard the first reading of a proposed new rent abatement law. The work is not done, but this was an important next step to improve housing quality and prevent building collapses and tenant displacement.
